29 Jul A Few Words About Focus and Feelings From Our President, Jeff Russell
I believe, in our own minds, that we create what we focus on. If we are thinking non-stop about stress, disappointment, and negative thoughts, it creates more of those feelings.
This is an important concept and something to be very mindful of because it massively impacts our mental state. So, work to make this a consistent part of your life – focusing on what you want versus focusing on what you don’t want.
Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t something that comes easy or that’s built into us. We all have to give our brains instructions on where to focus our thoughts. We can’t just run scared thinking about things that might happen or that we don’t want to happen.
If your brain starts going down that path, make an immediate u-turn! Move your thoughts into positive self-talk. Your internal voice matters and can have such a powerful impact on your overall well-being.
In The Four Agreements by Don Miquel Ruiz, one of the agreements is being impeccable with your word. And, this includes internal conversations with yourself.
It’s virtually impossible to not ever have negative thoughts. They creep in and do their best to overtake the conversation. But, what you can do (and what I do) is to not allow them to hang around for very long.
Brian Tracy says, “The law of concentration states that whatever you dwell upon grows. The more you think about something, the more it becomes part of your reality.” And, I couldn’t agree with that statement more.
So, stop thinking about the money you wish you had, and think about how you can manage your budget better to have that money.
Don’t dwell on that amazing relationship you wish you had, but instead, shift your focus and show gratitude towards the awesome relationships that already exist in your life.
If you start going down the, “I suck” or “I’m so dumb” route. Stop! Replace those thoughts with, “I got this” or “I am totally capable of doing this!” And, remind yourself that positive self-talk matters and shapes your reality.
Personally, if I do something that isn’t smart, I don’t say, “Well, that was stupid.” I say something like, “oopsie daisy,” mostly because it sounds so ridiculous and gets me out of my own head. And, yes, I really do say “oopsie daisy.” Even if you don’t believe it. Do it. I am certain it will make a big difference in your life. Life is good. — Jeff
